Eastern Palace - Hand-drawn by Zoffany collaborator Sam Wilde, this artwork respectfully represents the concept of fuubutsushi, a word unique to the Japanese language that means, ‘The things – feelings, scents, images – that evoke memories or anticipation for a particular season.` Here, Sam`s detailed design depicts a journey across Japan`s four main islands, taking in palaces, temples and giant ‘kamis` or spirits.
